How to Get More Auditions!
For any actor, landing auditions is the first step toward booking roles and building a successful career. However, sometimes as even working actors we stop getting auditions or just don't get as many as we want. Here are some actionable tips to help you get yourself out there and start getting more auditions.
1. Polish Your Headshots and Resume
Your headshot and resume are often the first things casting directors see. Make sure your headshots are current, professionally taken, and reflect your most marketable look. Your resume should be well-organized, listing your most relevant experience, training, and skills. Tailor your resume to highlight the roles you're targeting.

2. Strengthen Your Casting Profiles
Create or update your profiles on platforms like Backstage, Actors Access, and Casting Networks. Ensure that your profiles are complete with up-to-date photos, reels, and credits. Consider creating a personal website that showcases your work, contact information, and upcoming projects.
3. Create an Acting Reel
Nowadays, since almost everything is virtual having a professional acting reel is absolutely crucial for an actor to get auditions and jobs. If you have enough professional footage make sure to edit your reel or hire an editor to edit your reel of all your best clips (recommended 15-30 sec per scene) into one 1.5-2 min acting reel.
If you're just starting out or just don't have enough professional on-camera footage consider hiring an acting reel company to film your reel for you.
4. Build Relationships with Casting Directors
Building relationships with casting directors can lead to more auditions. Attend workshops, seminars, and industry events where casting directors are present. These events can provide insight into what they are looking for and how to stand out at an audition. When you do audition, be professional, always on time, courteous, and follow up with a thank-you note to leave a positive impression.
5. Get an Agent or Manager
A reputable agent can significantly increase your audition opportunities. If you don’t have an agent yet, focus on building strong credits and acting reel that you can use to approach agents and managers. Research agents who represent actors in your niche and submit your materials to them. Attend agent showcases or try to get a referral from a fellow actor friend or your acting coach. A good agent will have established relationships with casting directors and can advocate for you to get into the right rooms.
6. Create Your Own Opportunities
Don’t wait for auditions to come to you—create your own. Work on independent films, web series, or short film productions to build your resume and acting reel. These projects can lead to exposure, help you develop relationships with filmmakers and other creatives, and potentially catch the eye of casting directors.
7. Stay Persistent and Positive
The audition process can be tough, with more rejections than callbacks. However, persistence is key. Stay positive, continue honing your craft, and don’t be afraid to take risks. Each audition is a chance to improve and get closer to landing that next big role.
